RULES OF THE RIVER 2011

  1. Beats
Maps showing the beat boundaries will be displayed in the Holmegate Hut and in the Crosby trailer situated by the wood at the top of the beat.
  2. Owner’s right to fish:
In addition to the let rods, the owner will reserve the right to fish himself after 5.30 pm, if water conditions are appropriate.
  3. Environment Agency issues
All rods are responsible for ensuring that they are in possession of a valid Rod Licence.
  4. Bag Limits

    Salmon/Sea Trout

As required by the national bylaws all salmon caught before 16th June must be returned.
After 16th June, under the new Byelaws no more than two salmon and two sea trout may be killed each day by any fisherman. From 10th September until the end of the season, no female salmon or sea trout may be killed. Regardless of these Byelaws Rods are requested to return as many undamaged fish as they can.

    Brown Trout

In recent years some good bags of trout have been caught and returned. There is considerable concern regarding the numbers of juvenile trout in the Eden. If possible, please return all trout caught: if trout are to be killed, the limit is two fish per day.
  5. Shrimping/Worming
    1. no more than one fish per day can be killed on the shrimp
    2. no worming on or after 1st September
    3. no shrimping before 1.00p.m.
  6. RECORD KEEPING

ALL FISH (including Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout) CAUGHT (INCLUDING THOSE RETURNED) MUST BE ENTERED IN THE RETURNS IN THE CROSBY TRAILER/HOLMGATE HUT OR ADVISED TO JAMES CARR (01228- 561993 or via my e-mail jamescarr@moorhousehall.co.uk) WITHIN 24 HOURS.
  7. Access
Please keep as far as possible to the hard track going to the river and to the tracks along the riverside. Please do not drive across the main fields.
  8. Health and Safety
Tenants are warned that wading is dangerous. The estate can take no responsibility for any accident that occurs whilst wading. Wading should not be undertaken when the water is high. The use of the boat at Holmegate is entirely at the tenants risk.
  9. Gyrodactylus Salaris (‘GS’)
If the GS parasite escapes from Europe into the UK it could wipe out all salmon stocks. All tenants who have fished overseas must disinfect their tackle before fishing either at Moorhouse or elsewhere.
